RESOLUTION NO. 80-26
A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE
SUBMISSION OF AN APPLICATION
FOR A RECONSTRUCTION GRANT AND LOAN FOR
THE REPAIR OF THE LAKE ORONO DAM
WHEREAS, The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the United States
Army Corps of Engineers have classified the Lake Orono Dam a high
hazard structure, and have required that the City of Elk River
take positive actions to remedy such hazard; and,
WHEREAS, The City Council of the City of Elk River has deemed that the repair
of the Lake Orono Dam is in the best interest of the citizens of the
City of Elk River; and,
WHEREAS, The City of Elk River has applied for and received federal assistance
for the repair of the Orono Dam; and,
WHEREAS, The Minnesota State Legislature appropriated $344,000 in the form of
a grant for the repair of the Lake Orono Dam; and,
WHEREAS, The State of Minnesota has indicated that a loan for 90% of the local
share of the repair of the Lake Orono Dam can be obtained from the
State of Minnesota.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Elk River that,
an application to the State of Minnesota for a reconstruction grant
and loan for the repair of the Lake Orono Dam is hereby authorized
and be it further resolved that the Mayor and City Administrator
are empowered to make said application and enter into the necessary
agreements with the State of Minnesota on behalf of the City of Elk
River.
