Energy Expo Update Environmental Administrator, ss cca Haug gave an update on several decisions that have been made to continue moving the Expo alo fry ectrum School will be having a kick-off for the"Energy g P � � g Enny's" and"Energy Innovation test"at the end of January. Local utilities will be invited to come to the school in mid-February to talk with students about the new energy technologies and the plan to have the 11th graders take a tour of a few of the Energy City demonstration sites. The coloring contest flyer is on the Energy City and Elk River websites. Awards will be given to the winner of each category. The category is broken into two age groups, 5-9 years of age and 10-12. Nicki Blake-Bradley is going to look into getting Coborn's to sponsor the coloring contest event. The sponsorships are starting to come in. Elk River Star News is going to run two full page ads worth $3964,and is going to pay for this as their contribution. They will also be printing the flyer worth $2148.30 and will give a break on that cost as well. The total amount this far in sponsors/contributions is$45,489.00. • The number of exhibitors hasn't changed from the last meeting. Commissioner Berreman is going to help in contacting Anderson Windows for us as he has a connection with them. Staff is working off last year's list as well as a new list of people to call. Chair Zehringer recommended that if we still need Energy City Commission Minutes Page 2 January 16,2008 to in a month from now we can each make our own list of places to call. This will be decided at a later • date. 4. Energy City Goals The ECC's goal is to try and find ways to reduce electric use,reduce gas use,water usage and decrease waste stream. Chair Zehringer wants to consider this on a city wide basis. It was discussed that a focus group would be created to work on developing a program to allow residents to participate in making changes to their electric,gas,water and waste usage. The group will be made up of Commissioners Stoutenburg, Berreman,Burandt,Klinzing and Zehringer. Energy City Coordinator Position Update Environmental Administrator,Rebecca Haug informed the ECC that the Coun. �1,.roved advertising for this position,however with Ms. Haug going on maternity leave, the advertising will ' 'half way through her leave. When Ms.Haug returns,the interviewing process will begin. There has airy been several inquiries for this position. v' 6. Energy House III Funding Optiofs Chair Zehringer informed us that the Northwest Builders Association has recently dissolved as an Association. At this time it is unclear as "~v 4irA tours are still available. The interim use permit for Energy House III expires on March 20,2 8. � r. 7. Chair Zehringer handed out information on State4e-State ranks of wind generators. Minnesota ranks fifth in installed capacity.
