SR 05-04-2015 Request for Action To Item Number Mayor and City Council 4.7 Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by ConsentMay 4, 2015Ron Nierenhausen, Chief of Police Item Description Reviewed by Resolution Accepting Donation of iPad Mini Cal Portner, City Administrator Reviewed by Action Requested Adopt, by motion, a resolution accepting an iPad mini which was won by Captain Darren McKernan at the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association. Background/Discussion State law prohibits government employees from accepting gifts of more than nominal value. The iPad was the grand prize and participation at the conference was the only requirement for the drawing. The city will accept the iPad as a gift and utilize it as a public asset. It will be issued to Captain McKernan for work purposes and remain the property of the city until which time it becomes obsolete. Financial Impact N/A Attachments  Resolution Councilmember _______________ introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: Resolution 15-____ A Resolution of the City of Elk River Acknowledging Contributions WHEREAS, the City of Elk River is grateful to all civic groups, organizations, and individuals for their contributions to the community; and WHEREAS, the City of Elk River received a $399 iPad donation from the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association via raffle with the intent it be used by Darren McKernan, the raffle winner, for work purposes within the Elk River Police Department. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council, by at least four-fifths vote, to acknowledge the support and commend the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association for their donation. The motion for adoption of the foregoing resolution was duly seconded by Councilmember ______________, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: and the following against: , whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted.
