PUBLIC SAFETY OPEN HOUSE
This is an informational memo regarding our open house planned for
Saturday, May 6, 2000. The hours will be from 10:OO a.m. until 2:00
p.m. and we will be conducting many public safety demonstrations, as
well as providing a pet clinic for the community.
A new exhibit that we are excited about is CompuKid, an
identification program for children, which produces a color digital
picture, digital fingerprints, and inforn~ation that is saved on a floppy
disk. This computer disk, along with a color printout of the
information will be made available to the parents. This system was
recently purchased largely through donations solicited by the
community service unit for their crime prevention exhibition.
Other presentations will be offered by the SWAT team (van/
rappelling), bicycle patrol team, K-9 (demo), Investigations, and Safe
& Sober (crash car). A child seat safety clinic will hopefully include a
child seat giveaway. Tours of the police department will also be
available, as well as a greeting from McGruff (provided by the reserve
unit).
The Elk River Fire Department and Municipal Utilities will be on
hand, and State Patrol will again participate with their helicopter.
Rivers of Hope plans on vending hot dogs during the open house.
As the department will be open to the public, we are preparing our
building for the upcoming event. Since built in 1993, no major
upkeep has been done. New paint and wall repair will be applied to
high traffic areas and professional carpet cleaning has been arranged.
I estimate it will cost approximately two thousand dollars ($2,000.00)
to repaint the high traffic areas. If you would prefer, we can postpone
the painting. If you have any questions, give me a call.
