CONSIDER HIRING TERESA
TOUSIGNANT FOR THE POSITION
OF BUILDING/HOUSING INSPECTOR
The Building and Zoning Department had 50 applications for the position of
Building/Housing Inspector. This position will be responsible for the inspection and
licensing of apartments, responding to nuisance complaints, complaints regarding rental
single-family dwellings, and help out with regular building inspections.
Staff is recommending the city hire Teresa Tousignant for the position of
Building/Housing Inspector. With the diversity of responsibilities that this position will
be dealing with, the city is very lucky to have found a candidate whose current position
involves them all. Ms. Tousignant is currently employed by the City of Hopkins as a
Building/Housing/Fire Inspector. Nuisance code compliance is also amongst her duties
with Hopkins.
Ms. Tousignant's other qualifications for the position in Elk River include: 17 years in
the construction trade as a dry wall taper, State of Minnesota Limited Building Inspector
Certification, Pending Housing Inspector Certification, and an Assoc. Applied Science
Degree in Building Inspection Technology. She also did a two year internship as a
building inspector for the City of Champlin.
Staff recommends Ms. Tousignant be hired under the following conditions:
Starting wage of $19.55/hour
Starting date May 8, 2000
· Completion of orientation period December 8, 2000
· Upon successful completion of the orientation period, she will be increased to
a paygrade 13, step "D"($20.55)
· Normal cost of living increase in January 2001
· Next step increase July of 2001.
