Economic Development Executive Search Update
The Brimeyer Group, Inc. is conducting the executive search for the city's
director of economic development. Mr. Brimeyer has provided us with an
update on the status of the executive search and has given us some
background information on the top eleven candidates. The Brimeyer Group,
Inc. is interviewing these eleven candidates in an effort to reduce the field
down to an appropriate number to be interviewed. I expect that we will be
interviewing approximately four candidates the second week of May. By the
end of the month we should have some information from Mr. Brimeyer on the
top candidates.
For the director of planning search the interview team was Daryl Thompson,
Planning Commission member Louise Kuester, City Engineer Terry Maurer,
Finance Director Lori Johnson, and me. We brought the top candidate to the
City Council and Michele McPherson was hired.
For the liquor store manager search the interview team was Larry Farber and
John Dietz, Lori Johnson, and me. We brought the top candidate to the council
and, after a series of negotiations, we ultimately hired Dave Potvin as
manager.
Councilmembers Paul Motin and Daryl Thompson, EDA President Pat Dwyer
and HRA Chair Duane Kropuenske have all contacted me and volunteered to
participate on the interview team for the director of economic development.
Mr. Brimeyer or a representative from his firm will assist us in the interview
process and Lori Johnson and I also plan to participate in the interviews. It is
important that no more than two councilmembers participate in the process
because then we will be getting into a special public meeting situation if a
quorum is present during the interviews. Consistent with past practice it is
recommended that the interview team bring forward the top candidate for
council consideration and approval.
