A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE SIGNALIZATION OF THE INTERSECTION
OF U.S. TRUNK HIGHWAY #169 AND MAIN STREET IN THE CITY OF ELK RIVER
WHEREAS, U.S. Trunk Highway #169 and Main Street intersect within the City
limits of the City of Elk River; and,
WHEREAS, due to the absence of signalization and the posted speed limit, the
intersection of U.S. Trunk Highway #169 and Main Street has been the
site of a substantial number of traffic accidents, including one fatality
and numerous incapacitating injuries over the past several years; and,
WHEREAS, the intersection of U.S. Trunk Highway #169 and Main Street is in an area
which is in the process of rapid development, both by commercial and
residential uses; and,
WHEREAS, the increase in development will increase the usage of the intersection
of U.S. Trunk Highway #169 and Main Street and will thereby create further
opportunities for increased accidents and fatalities; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Elk River has informed the Brainerd office of the Minnesota
Department of Transportation that the City is willing to participate in
funding a project to signalize the intersection of U.S. Trunk Highway #169
and Main Street; and,
• WHEREAS, the intersection of U.S. Trunk Highway #169 and Main Street meets the
standards of the Minnesota Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for
Signalization, and as such, warrants the installation of a signal.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Elk River that the
Minnesota Department of Transportation is hereby requested to program the installa-
tion of the signal at the intersection of U.S. Trunk Highway #169 and Main Street in
the City of Elk River at the earliest possible date, inasmuch as the intersection
provides a threat to the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the State of
Minnesota and certainly, to the citizens of the City of Elk River.
