Product Offering Strategy The Marketing Committee discussed the Product Offering and Competitive Strategies (regarding available industrial land) at their May 6th and June 3rd meetings. The Director of Economic Development has provided a separate report regarding this issue. Promotions & Advertising Strategy Inquiries Staff received three new inquiries in May. V. Public Relations Strategy Economic Development Newsletter The second edition of the attached Economic Development Newsletter, the Progress Partner Dispatch,was distributed in mid-May to over 200 people representing the following groups: • Elk River manufacturers • High-tech companies located in Anoka, Sherburne, and Wright Counties • Past&present prospects/inquiries • Key accounts The purpose is to inform businesses of information useful to their operations and present an "open for business"image. MN Technology Partnership Program Staff submitted a grant application to the Initiative Foundation on May 13th regarding a pilot partnership program between the City of Elk River and MN Technology, Inc. (MTI). The program is designed to recruit and retain strong manufacturing companies within the City of Elk River by providing them with technical training services. The Initiative Foundation approved the grant request in the amount of$5,000 as referenced in the attached letter. Staff will meet with MTI in mid June to discuss joint marketing and promotion of the program. • Strategic Industrial Marketing Activities Update June 9,2003 Page 3 of 3 VI. Strategic Partnership Strategy Downtown Revitalization Project MetroPlains will present concept options to the HRA at their Special Meeting on June 5th at 5:00pm. A public open house is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday,June 18th at Lions Park Center from 6:00 to 8:00pm. VII. Business Retention Strategy Business Retention Program In May, a business retention and expansion (BRE)visit was held with Rich Duggen and Charles Butcher of Marketech. EDA commissioners Gongoll and Kuester attended the visit along with staff. Staff will contact EDA members individually to schedule future meetings with companies listed on the attached schedule.
