ERMUSR 06-16-2015 Elk River Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING TO: FROM: Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission Tom Sagstetter- Conservation and Key Accounts John Dietz—Chair Manager Al Nadeau—Vice Chair Daryl Thompson—Trustee MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER: June 16th, 2015 4.1 SUBJECT: Vision Committee - 100th Anniversary Planning Update DISCUSSION: • The event has been scheduled for Thursday, August 27th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. • Center Cut Meats has been selected as the food provider. There will be pulled pork,with sauces on the side,beans, pasta salad, and coleslaw. We are still exploring deserts, and snacks for the event in addition to the meal. The snacks will most likely be popcorn, cotton candy, and slushies. • ERMU and the County are finalizing the contract for the event. This will be a great venue and will save money and preparation time. The fairgrounds and buildings have tables on hand and simply need to be decorated which will safe considerable time and expense. • Community Education will participate and will provide entertainment for kids that will include a bouncy house, games, and activities. The Community Education insurance will provide coverage for their activities at this point • ERMU staff will provide tours of the diesel power plant and are working on a shuttle service to take them to the power plant and by water facilities. The water facilities will be highlighted on the drive or from the power plant,but guests will not be going inside the water tower or filter buildings. • The band Skitzo Fonik has been booked. They are band that plays a good mix of classic and new music. They are also able to play some of your favorite country tunes. They have two lead singers (one man and one woman)which will provide a wider range of diverse music and songs. The cost for the band, stage, and preparation is roughly$2,300. The contract is currently being finalized. • We are working with local businesses to sponsor different portions of this community celebration. • The marketing plan includes bill inserts that were mailed in May to save the date. There are also ads that are being run in The Current, The Connector, Resource Update, City of Elk River Parks and Recreation Activities and ERTV Channel 180. Information will be POWERED or Page 1 of 2 NATURE Reliable Public Power Provider P O W E R E D T O S E R V E 68 provided to the Star News for a possible story on the 100 year anniversary, and a PSA closer to August 27`h • Displays at the event will include; a compressed methane garbage truck(Waste Management), pole top rescue, ERMU bucket truck, ERMU bore rig, water hydrant demonstration, electric safety presentation,power plant tours and an MMPA display. • Decorations and volunteer t-shirts are being finalized. • The100th anniversary history report is in the final draft and layout stage with Hess Roise, and we're anticipating having the books printed and ready for distribution in time for our event. rOWERED 11 Page 2 of 2 NATURE Reliable Public Power Provider POWERED TO SERVE 69
