At the meeting,the Board reviewed the business plan for an Agency-owned distributed generation facility in Shakopee, Minnesota. The Board approved proceeding with development of the project. The Board approved the purchase of a 91-acre site near Buffalo that the Agency intends to use for a utility-scale solar power project. MMPA plans to issue an RFP to developers to build and operate a solar project on the site in the next two weeks. The Board was informed that MMPA's 2015 energy education program was complete. The program reached approximately 2,500 fourth grade students from 22 schools in MMPA member and power plant host communities. • The Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association held a planning session on May 27-28 in Plymouth, MN. This was followed by a business meeting to take action on items developed during the planning session. During the business meeting, the board: o Received the 2013-2014 audited financial statements, an unmodified(i.e. clean) opinion with no adjusting journal entries o Adopted an operating reserves and investment policy o Approved direction for developing a MN stray voltage guide with the coops o Approved direction for exploring the development of a managerial/soft-skills training program o Approved direction for the exploring the transition to ownership of office space o Approved direction for additional MMUA website development o Approved an expansion of the MMUA awards program • I attended the Great River Energy annual meeting on June 3 in Maple Grove, MN. The event will be located at the Le Sueur Country Club on July 28, 2015. Please see the attached notice. Formal invitations will be sent from MMPA. • This past year I participate in the Rotary Students Taking Renewed Interest in the Value of Education(STRIVE)program. The program partners with ISD728 Elk River High School to help seniors facing academic challenges become motivated and inspired to finish strong. The Elk River Rotary also provides two $1000 scholarships for the STRIVE program students. Local leaders meet with the program students twice a month during their first period to teach life and business skills. I will likely always be remembered for my"what not to do during an interview" skit. The STRIVE program graduation was held on June 4 during the Rotary weekly meeting. MMPA provides wholesale electricity to eleven member communities who in turn deliver and sell that electricity to the residential and business customers in their communities. MMPA generates electricity and also purchases electricity from other generators and from the Mid- continent Independent System Operator (MISO).The Agency's mission is to provide reliable, competitively priced power to its members and to create value for both the Agency and its members. MMPA's newest member community, Elk River, will begin buying its wholesale power require- ments from MMPA on October 1, 2018. 264
