Staff Update
DISCUSSION:
• Hosted a low-income event with Tri-Cap. The event was a great opportunity to meet
clients in Elk River. There were representatives from CAER, CenterPoint Energy,
Community Education, Sherburne County, Wright County, Elk River Municipal Utilities,
and Energy City. There were 25 clients that attended the first year of this event.
• Completed the annual data submission Conservation Improvement Programs. This
information will be aggregated with all the other utilities that are served by GRE and
submitted to the MN Department of Commerce for review and approval. The MN DOC
will have final approval or recommendations by December 31, 2015.
• Energy City hosted many tours this spring with over 150 students going through the
education center.
• ERMU sponsored a High Performance Space and Data Center Summit with Sherburne
County and Elk River Economic Development. The partnership is aggressively
marketing the shovel ready site along with other sites that do not have the shovel ready
designation. Participated in a panel presentation with Xcel Energy on energy efficiency
in high performance high energy use buildings/data centers.
• Attended the APPA Annual Conference. The major dominating theme of the event is
that the electric utility business is changing. Utilities need to be open to change and
possibly changing their business model to survive. I learned of a couple of options to
offer additional renewable resources as the popularity of solar PV continues to grow.
