Background/Discussion
With the retirement of Bob Mahutga on May 15, 2015, Equipment Services has a need for a Mechanic.
Bob had also served as the division lead which includes prioritizing the division workload,
communicating with vendors, ordering parts and supplies, and task scheduling.
We are in the process of recruiting for the vacant mechanic position. In Bob's absence, Steve Taylor has
managed the division lead workload. Staff wishes to appoint mechanic Steve Taylor as the Interim Lead
Mechanic until the position is filled. At that time we will determine the best candidate to be appointed to
the lead position.
The lead position is placed in pay grade 7. Per past practice,interim assignments receive an additional 5
to 10% compensation for this responsibility. The top pay in pay grade 7 is an approximate 8%increase
over Steve Taylor's current pay. Staff recommends interim pay at the top step of pay grade 7 and making
this increase retroactive to Bob Mahutga's retirement.
Financial Impact
There are adequate funds in the budget for this increase.
