4.1. SR 05-22-2000A,,, River Police Department Thomas D. Zerwas Chief of Police May 14, 2000 Item 4.1. Mayor Stephanie Klinzing & City Council Members Elk River City Hall Elk River, MN 55330 RE: Elk River Police Reserve Unit Dear Mayor & Council Members: This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the Elk River Police Reserve Unit. According to my research the unit was officially recognized on June 2no 1975 (See attached document) with council approval. Since that date the Reserve Unit has dedicated countless hours of service to both the Police Department and the citizens of Elk River with great pride and enthusiasm. During the year 1999 the Reserve Unit donated roughly 2,200 hours to community events, security checks, and officer assists. I am requesting that June 2nd be dedicated as "Elk River Police Reserve Unit Day". I would also request, if possible, a dedication during the May 22nd Council Meeting to announce this date along with a public thank you to the Reserve Unit. This public acknowledgement of both the Reserve Unit and it's countless hours of service would be greatly appreciated by all those past and current members. If you would like to discuss this subject in more detail, please feel free to contact me at the Police Department. Your attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, _ j~ ~-~ Sgt. Zerwas Chief of Police May 22, 2000 Mayor Stephanie Klinzing & City Council Members Elk River City Hall Elk River, MN 55330 Dear Mayor & Council Members: On behalf of the Police Department and the Reserve Unit I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for honoring the Police Reserve Unit and its members. I have been affiliated with the Reserves for the past 12 years as a helper, assistant liaison, and liaison. During that time I have trained, advised, coordinated, and directed some of the most energetic people I have known. Members past and present have continually given their time to make sure a police presence is known at a variety of events. During the past nine years alone, the Reserve Unit has donated roughly 33,000 hours to the community. That number equates to a saving of $726,000.00 for the tax payers of Elk River. The time that they sacrifice and the service they provide comes from a unique individual who is TRULY concerned about the community and it's welfare. I am extremely proud and grateful to work with these individuals. I am also elated to be able to help them celebrate 25 years of continued service to the City of Elk River and it's citizens. They are simply the best. S' cerely, '--~'~ Sgt. Ron Nierenhausen Badge #606 Elk River Police Department 13065 Orono Parkway * P.O.
