SUBJECT: Request from Downtown Rivers Edge Business Association for use of
Municipal Utility Building
Attached for your information is a letter from Wendy Simonsen, President of the Do~vntown Rivers
Edge Business Association. In this letter there is a request for the Rivers Edge group to continue to
use the Municipal Utilities building for a short period this summer. The Rivers Edge group would
like to hold a follow-up garage sale as a fundraiser and needs the building to store items that would
be sold at the garage sale.
I have briefly discussed this request with Utilities General Manager Bryan Adams and he had no
problems with the Rivers Edge group using this building for this purpose. There have been no
problems that the city has experienced with the Rivers Edge group using this building for the past
month or so. A key has been provided to Wendy for access to the building. The city continues to
have insurance on the building, but not on what is stored in the building.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council continue to aHo~v the Downtown Rivers Edge Business
Association to use the Municipal Utilities building until the end of June 2004.

Dear Mr. Klaers,
The Cities Utilities Building was a great place for us the hold our garage sale.
Unfortunately, the weather was not very cooperative and our sale was not as successful as
we would have liked.
On behalf of the Downtown Rivers Edge Business Association, I would like to
request the cities permission to hold another sale in the building on June 17, 18, & 19th.
We feel that if we held the sale for more days and in conjunction with a downtown
sidewalk sale, it would be more successful.
Regardless of how this sale tums out, we will have all of our things out of the
Utilities Building by June 25 and the key returned.
Please let me know at your earliest convenience if this is ok.
Sincerely,
Wendy Simenson, President
Downtown Rivers Edge Business Association
P.S. If our request is OK'd, we will be accepting more items to sell. If any one at the City
needs to reduce clutter in their homes or offices, please feel free to set up a time with us
to drop items off.
