Background/Discussion
It has been almost a year in the making, but we are excited to announce that the Public Art Installation
Initiative is nearing completion. The initiative was established as a way to create a memorable and
impactful addition to the city and to promote the "Powered by Nature" brand. Carl Zachmann, the artist,
has been busy building the llhimsical ilindmill, which will be unveiled at a ceremony on August 27, 2015,
from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Great River Regional Library. Staff is coordinating this exciting event
and will share details as they are confirmed.
The windmill will have an incredible backdrop as it will be installed between the Butterfly Garden and the
Prairie Garden. This location will be visible for people traveling on Orono Parkway and for people
entering the library parking lot. There is an opportunity for people to sit, relax, and enjoy the whimsical
sounds of the windmill on a nearby bench.
This is an exciting project for the city and we look forward to the community enjoying the Whimsical
Windmill for many years to come.
