River MEMORANDUM TO: Housing & Redevelopment Authority Mayor & City Council FROM: Catherine Mehelich, Director of Economic Developmen il DATE: July 29, 2002 SUBJECT: Feedback from Public Open House with Developers Attachments • 15 completed Comment Forms from the July 17, 2002 Open House A public open house was held Wednesday,July 17,2002 from 7 —9 p.m. at the Lions Park Center. The purpose of the open house was to allow the public an opportunity to meet the three developers being considered for the downtown revitalization project,review their concepts, ask questions and provide feedback to the HRA and Council regarding likes, dislikes and issues of concern. The open house was communicated by the following activities: • Interview with Star News and cover story in the July 10th edition, as well as additional coverage in the July 17 publication. • Event flyers and news release distributed to over 30 businesses via the Rivers Edge Business Association. • Announcement at the July 10, 2002 Rivers Edge Business Assoc. regular meeting. • Event flyers posted at the library, city hall,municipal utilities office and Lion's Park Center. • Announcement on ErtV Channel 12. Staff estimates approximately 50 people attended the open house. There was no formal presentation, rather a series of informal discussions between the public and developers. The developers had presentation boards of their concept for downtown and their redevelopment experience. The public was asked to sign-in and to fill out a comment form to provide feedback to the Council and HRA. Fifteen comment forms were completed and submitted. • Staff also provided information on the downtown revitalization project goal and objectives, chronology, redevelopment process and project newsletters.
