Subject: VEHICLES FOR SALE IN CITY LOTS
Item 7.2.
It has been brought to my attention that the City Council had a
discussion on June 26th, 2000, regarding people parking their cars in
city parking lots with "For Sale" signs displayed,
The way we currently enforce this issue is by giving a prohibited
parking ticket to the violator with a frae assessed at fifteen dollars
($15.OO). If the person violates a second time within thirty (30) days,
the fme is doubled.
I understand that some council members would like this frae to be
increased. The only problem at this time is that we recently received a
new batch of parking tickets with the current fme amounts printed on
them. I would suggest that we wait until January, 2OO1, and address
all frees at that time.
For the present, I would suggest that we appropriately sign all the City
parking lots in regards to vehicles for sale. If someone is in violation,
they would receive a citation and if possible, their vehicle would be
towed.
The one (1) problem I see is when someone is legitimately parked in a
City lot with for sale signs in their windows. An example would be a
Kemper Drug employee, while working at Kemper' s, parks their
vehicle in the City lot with for sale signs in the window. How do we
differentiate this vehicle from someone else who is using the City
parking lot as a used car sales lot?
My request is that the City Council discuss this issue and deterinine if
you want this enforced all inclusive, in all City lots or just in contract
lots. I would ask that council members contact me after reading this
memo, so we can discuss it further.
