RE: Request to close Main Street
I attended a meeting of the Downtown Association and they have made a request to close Main Street
at King and Jackson. This would take place on August 16th from 5:30pm until 9:00pm. It would allow
cars that are part of the last "Cruise" night to park along Main. Last time they did this they ran out of
room. They expect between 2-300 cars. (4-500 people)
They would need 6-barriacades and 12-cones from Public Works to facilitate keeping the entry to the
bank open for drive-up customers.
The downtown association voted on this closing, and all were in favor of the closing as the
tremendous influx of people is great for all their business. They have asked that we have a motorcycle
and a bike officer stop by the event to introduce/promote these programs. We have staff on hand that
night that could provide those visits.
They have volunteers that would direct the cars to the proper parking locations. Detour would be very
easy - traffic would take the one block loop out to Hwy. 10 and back again.
