Staff Update
DISCUSSION:
• Worked with the Elk River EDA and Sherburne County to provide detailed electric and
water utility information for a possible large industrial customer that is evaluating the
purchase of the County land on Mississippi Road.
• Sponsored and participated in a panel discussion about energy efficiency in commercial
buildings. The half day conference was titled Energy Summit and was part of the
continuing education program sponsored by Midwest Real Estate News. There were over
30 commercial brokers in attendance. The panel discussion included representatives
from Xcel Energy, Dakota Electric Cooperative, Lunds/Byerlys, and the St. Paul Port
Authority. The City of Elk River Economic Development Authority and ERMU split the
sponsorship fee for this event.
• Attended the MMUA Summer Conference. The sessions were very informative
especially in the areas of the Clean Power Plan and renewable energy. We had some
discussions between sessions about a rate study that will be done by Dave Berg
Consulting, and how municipal utilities can best prepare for large industrial customers
looking to locate in our communities.
