Action Requested
Approve, by motion, the hiring of Jason Ames for the position of Wastewater Treatment Systems
Operator effective October 26, 2015.
Background/Discussion
Following retirement of Chief Operator Gary Leirmoe and the successive internal promotions of Lead
Operator Matt Stevens to Chief Operator and Nick Flaherty Lead Operator, Mr. Stevens opted to leave
the vacant operator position open through the initial plant reconstruction.
With the plant reconstruction proceeding as planned, we went to market to fill the vacancy. We received
12 applications and interviewed six candidates. We recommend the hiring of Jason Ames.
Mr. Ames is a former city employee, working from 2006 through 2009 as a seasonal employee for
Pinewood Golf Course. He worked for People Service following his graduation from St. Cloud
Technical College with a degree in Water Environment Technologies and has worked for the City of
Bloomington for the past five years.
Pay steps for our wastewater operators are based on the license they hold. Mr. Ames holds a D license so
will begin at step B of pay grade 6. All pay increases and benefits will be consistent with city policy.
Financial Impact
This is a budgeted position.
