Mayor Dietz read the proclamation. 2. Proclaim, by motion,November as Veteran Appreciation Month. Background/Discussion Mayor Dietz requested the city proclaim November as Veteran Appreciation Month. Bruce Price, Sherburne County Veterans Services Director,will be present to introduce himself and outline some resources available to veterans. Financial Impact N/A Attachments ■ Proclamation POWERED 6T Template Updoted 4/14 INAWRE1 Proclamation Designating November as Veteran Appreciation Month WHEREAS, there are approximately 1,500 veterans residing in Elk River, many of whom put their lives on the line to preserve our freedoms. Our veterans served on the land, at sea, and in the air. Through each of these challenges, the members of the Army,Navy,Air Force,Marines, and Coast Guard have protected our country and liberated millions of people around the word from the threats of tyranny and terror; and WHEREAS, our proud veterans have also helped to share the American character. They have given us an extraordinary legacy of patriotism and honor, and their service represents the highest form of citizenship; and WHEREAS, according to the US census,less than '/z of 1% of the United States'population have ever served in the military; and WHEREAS, in recognition of the contributions our service men and women have made to the cause of peace and freedom around the world,it is fitting to honor and thank the men and women who have served in the military for their dedication and service to our country; and WHEREAS, I urge all residents to recognize the valor and sacrifice of our veterans through appropriate public ceremonies and private prayers. I encourage educators to invite veterans to teach our young people about their experiences because by sharing their knowledge on some of the most proud and dramatic moments in our history, they can help educate and inspire a new generation of Americans. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I,John J. Dietz,Mayor of Elk River, do hereby proclaim November as Veteran Appreciation Month in the City of Elk River. John J.
