5.0. SWCSR 05-06-2010 Sherburne Wright Cable Commission 2nd Quarter 2010 Report Cable Commission Website We are in the process of developing a Sherburne Wright Cable Commission web site. Mark and I have brainstormed a very colorful interface that uses our communities icons like the Delano "fireworks logo",the Dassel"Rooster" and the Elk River"Elk"for the site. This will help visitors to the site go between our member cities web sites and view our playback schedule and events calendar. Mark's wife Brenda is a professional graphic artist and she is working with us to create an animated map of the commission area. This website will help with the branding of the cable commission and give us an identifiable link for people when they see our trailer. 13uffato SHERBURNE WRIGHT CABLE COMMISSION \'Ot't2 LOC\I.(.O I RN\LENT Tv citNNIL „„.I..NKE • BIFFAI d) + 1'OK.\'1'U+ U0+,K1.+ 011.,%NO •- NU'Lh;I VHF: y « ELIC RIC6:I2 + +ION•I'll PILO+ 1201'KFONO + \I 412 OWN r .1141/ This is an example of a few of the graphics and icons We are developing variations of all the city logos to fit the whimsical style of the map. We want to animate the icons so that when someone moves their mouse near the logo the buffalo snorts and scratches his feet. The Dassel rooster would crow and flap its wings. This will make people want to explore the map and visit each city to see what their logo will do. It will also make people spread the word about the web site. This site will benefit our communities in many ways. 1) It will link up to the area wide channel with a PEG Central account. This account will have the programming that plays on the area wide TV channel. It will function just like the individual city channels and allow everyone to view internet replays of the programming that is on the area wide channel. 2) It will provide a calendar of events for all things cable commission. People will be able to go to the web site to see when the Movies in the Parks are playing in each city. It will show all the scheduled tapings of city parades and other events. 3) It will provide a link to each individual city PEG Central account and city web site. This will allow people to easily view any city council meeting in our city area. 4) We will be able to use it to stream live web based programming from our trailer. 5) It will become a resource for our volunteers and city staff. 6) It will have a TV schedule for the area wide channel. We believe that this web site will become an area wide clearing house for many • community events as cities provide links and notices of their events. Mark and I are in the process of developing the technical and creative components of the site and hope to have it in operation in conjunction with the area wide channel. Any comments or input are welcome. Other Commission Projects Fiber installs We have been working with Charter as they bring fiber drops to our cities. So far the following cities have had fiber brought to the playback rack, Buffalo, Maple Lake, Rockford, Dassel and Cokato. Delano and Elk River have had their fiber runs for at least 6 months. The company is still working in Monticello, Big Lake and Watertown to complete the fiber runs. The picture in the cities with the new fiber installed has improved dramatically. New Production Trailer equipment installation We have taken delivery of the new video production trailer and have begun the work of setting up the racking system and installing the equipment. This will take us about 3 weeks which will be more then enough time to have it ready for our next parade. • We have been working on creating a logo and graphics for the side and door decals. We • have quotes from 2 different companies for installing the decals which is very involved because of the number of rivets and screws on the skin of the trailer. The Trailer size is 24' x 8', we are still working on refining the logo to fit the area. The graphics will tie into the website logo so that we have consistency in our branding. We received 2 different quotes for the work: Vital Signs Delano $950-$1200 plus$80 per hour for any art changes Studio 299 Buffalo $1215.97 plus $60 per hour for any art changes Edit System We finished installing a new edit system in Elk River. This system was approved last summer but the parts were not available until recently. This system is different from others in that it will edit in both Standard definition and High definition. Please take a look at it after our meeting. Monticello Smart Lectern We designed a new portable Smart lectern for Monticello. It is designed to move between the council chambers and meeting rooms. It has a Sympodium and SmartBoard software • built in to it along with a very fast computer. We also updated Monticello's main SmartBoard lectern with a much faster computer. Monticello EPA Meeting We recently assisted Monticello with an internet conference and linkup with the EPA. Monticello hosted over 100 city engineers to discuss changes in watershed usage. The attendees were able to talk with and be seen by EPA administrators in Washington D.C. with an AV Sympodium hookup that we helped install. Chamber of Commerce and City Council presentations We recently met with the chambers from both Dassel and Cokato. It was very valuable to do this outreach as both groups immediately wanted to use the services of the commission. Mark is setting up Movie in the Park nights and discussing programming ideas with them. We also made a presentation at a Cokato City council meeting. Cokato PEG Central playback We worked with the folks who designed Cokato's new web site and setup the link for their PEG Central account. The site is now ready to go and the newspaper is going to write a story about it to make residents aware of its availability. • 4111 Equipment Requests Big Lake Big Lake has requested from the commission a rack mounted audio recorder. They want this unit mounted near the council dais to record audio files of the council meetings and other events. It will be wired directly into the control room audio system and the city network. The recorder recommended is a: Marantz PMD580 Solid-State Compact Flash recorder w/ Internal Web GUI This is an item that we can buy on line as it usually doesn't need too much service backup by a dealer. Here are the quotes: Online-Markertek.com $1299 plus shipping. Item is in stock. Online-B&H Photo Video $1299 plus shipping Online- Sweetwater$1249.47 plus shipping •
