SWCSR 05-06-2010 Sherburne Wright Cable Commission • May 2010 Production Report Rockford Riverworks Food Shelf Production This production tells the story of Rockford food shelf from conception to grand opening t- y through a series of interviews with key \sad individuals including city mayor and council etr member. It was A 15 minute production that was well received by both the city and the DE6st Wes/Ittt food shelf. In this production I learned some color correcting techniques. � r Maple Lake Ice Fishing Event -� A longer promotional piece for Maple Lake's annual ice fishing 411 event. Set to up tempo music it features an arctic plunge where a dozen people jump into a swimming pool cut out of the ice, swim across, and climb out of the water then jump into a warm hot tub. As it was a fishing event, I showed people with fish that they had caught and the grand prize winner of a fish house/trailer. I had 3 cameras on the ice i ; and was assisted by Eric Ortiz, producer from Maple Lake and Tim Kleppe, one of my friends who has helped me at parades. Elk River Energy Expo The fourth annual Elk River Energy City Expo features a speech by Mayor ' Stephaney Klinzing and a power point presentation by Energy City d Commission Chair Vance Zehringer. I mixed video with stills from the power point file. Following the speeches are interviews with the participants/vendors in the expo. This was a 35 minute production. We had 2 cameras set up for the speeches. I was .e xr assisted by Bill for camera 2 operation and the interviews 111111 I IFr 410 Will Steger Video • The second part of the Energy Expo was a presentation by Will Steger. Mr. Steger's presentation had mixed slides and I video. Unfortunately I was unable to obtain the actual / presentation from Mr. Steger's staff, but they did have an Aix older one that had most of his presentation in it. I was able .1110. to piece together the production with the provided stills I and video after converting it from an Apple file format. Mr. -144 Steger's speech ended up being an hour and twenty minutes. I was again assisted by Bill for camera 2 operation. Maple Lake Parade The Maple Lake St. Patrick's Day Parade went fairly smooth. This year's grand marshal(s) were the veterans in the area. The parade was stopped about a quarter of the way through and a presentation was made in honor of the veterans. Eric, Maple Lake's producer, was sent down to the presentation with a camera and recorded the event. After the parade ended Eric's footage was edited and inserted at the beginning of the parade. This year's parade went much smoother then last years with 10 parades experience behind us, my crew knows what to do ti3 '•1t"�it writ tt)1i � "+i 13iand how to do it. They have begun to anticipate shots and their camera work has improved greatly. Big Lake Expo Big Lake's Business Expo is a series of interviews of the participants present at the Expo. Bill once again assisted me with the interviews. 35 minutes The Friendly • ,,631.f.3-2019 AG 'f'':"11,.;.3' Delano, yM Delano Expo File Footage File footage for Delano, just me and my camera. I went to each ,°* Delano vendor and asked them to tell me on camera, who they are, what they do, contact information, and why do they like doing business in Delano. .�t rCrow River Flooding File Footage During the flooding I took the camera out and videotaped flood happenings, from high school I �Mw_ 7 students sandbagging to water rising up the . bridges to people and crew observing the rising waters. Maple Lake Sewer Video • A quick video for the Maple Lake City Council. A 3 minute production with provided footage of sump water flowing through the city sewer system. Dassel Water Tower Video Dassel's historic water tower is no more. In this production I am assisting Dassel's producer Elisabeth n. Schmieg with a video of the demolition of the water tower and interviews of several long time residents reminiscing about some of the events and antics surrounding the water tower over the years. Wright County Mock Car Crash ..40;+ Wright County with the cooperation of several local agencies put together a mock car crash event at Delano High School, The event was attended by all of Delano seniors and juniors. The performance by the student actors was very moving. My son Levi and his friend Phill helped me tape the event. It is still in the editing process and will end up being around a half hour long. wRight Ringers A half hour production of the wRight Ringers, Wright County's Bell Choir. °i..4, Buffalo provided the footage, I edited and E VW added titles.ASV Delano Website Mayor Spot A 30 second welcome message embedded on the Delano website's main page. It features the mayor of Delano standing next to city hall with a nice moderate melody base. You can view it on Delano's website at www.delano.mn.us. • Big Lake Mock Car Crash Similar to the Wright County event, Big Lake also had a mock car crash for their students, also performed by student actors. I recruited three Big Lake Seniors with video experience to operate cameras, gave them a brief run through of what to video and turned them loose. I think that there is going to be some interesting footage. All three students expressed interest in helping edit, and Gina at Big Lake city hall offered the space to do it in. Meet& Greet City Council and Chambers Bill and I have met with the Cokato city council and Cokato's and Dassel's chambers, and I have met with Maple Lakes Chamber, I met the council when I filled in for their producer for one council meeting that he was unable to work. Future Projects Currently we have on the calendar 18 movies and 9 parades, plus I have several video projects pending, EDA videos for Cokato, Big Lake, and Delano,two mock car crashes, snowplow video, airport video for • buffalo, city services video, a baseball tournament promo video for Delano and Maple Lake, embedded mayor message and an EDA project for Watertown. Sherburne Wright Cable Commission Production Report Baseball Production The baseball teams in Delano and Maple Lake jointly bid on hosting the state amateur baseball tournament. Up for bid were the 2013 through 2015 tournaments. Together, both team leaderships and I created a 10 minute video to show to the tournament committee. The video featured John Hines of WCCO Radio narrating under a mixed still shot and video slideshow of history and features of both teams and their fields. I am happy to report that they won the bid for the 2013 state tournament and have asked if it were possible for us to video and rebroadcast some of the games. Buffalo Lower Third Graphics Ann from Buffalo wanted to update the graphics on their tricaster for meetings. I created some rough drafts using Visio and submitted them to her. With her changes we were able to create some Buffalo Fred Naakt eboren new fresher looking graphics that fit with the City of Buffalo logo. If Mayor anyone wants to update their lower third graphics on their tricaster, let me know. • Dassel Museum Smithsonian Production The Dassel Historical Society is once again bidding on a Smithsonian Institute traveling exhibit. Carolyn from the Museum and several historical society members put together a song but were stuck with what to do with it. Coincidently, Elisabeth, Dassel's producer, had introduced me to a Dassel resident, Melissa Kraemer, who had just completed film school in North Dakota. Melissa and I met with the Historical Society Committee and worked out a storyboard for a music video. Using society members and their extended families we shot the video in one day. Melissa edited the production on a very tight deadline and the video was submitted to the Minnesota Center for the Humanities. A quote from the email received by Carolyn was "You really made my Friday, I was expecting supporting documentation, not a music video,Thank You, and I think I'll make this a requirement for all submissions from now on." We are still waiting for the results from the decision makers. Dassel Museum Completion Celebration While doing the last production for the museum,the next production was already in progress. The Dassel museum is finally completed, mostly, and the historical society wanted to celebrate in many ways, one of the ways was a video of the museum building from start to finish. Using footage taken in the 1990s and combining it with footage Melissa and I gathered of the museum, as well as interviews with some key individuals from past and present, we were able to create a production that was played in a theater like environment, upstairs in the museum. Melissa edited the video which was well received. Delano Senior Center Arts Presentation Delano senior center and the Delano Community Education with the help of Tigers Kids Club put • together a production which showcased the talents of many kinds of artists young and old including Illustrators, photographers, writers and singers. Previously for an event like this I would have had two cameras videotaping the event and would have to edit later. This time I used the new production trailer and three cameras. My son, his girlfriend, and his friend operated cameras while I sat in the trailer and ran audio, and the tricaster. More on the trailer under the parade section. On a sad note, this is the last production my son and I will work on for a while as he is going to school in Arizona for two years. I am losing two experienced cameramen as his friend is joining him in Arizona for the same school. The video 41110 however turned out well and the senior center staff was pleased with the production. Movies in the park We have been receiving a lot of positive feedback on our movies in the park. People who come to watch have all seemed appreciative of the movies we have been showing. I have been creating a preshow before each movie highlighting the sponsors, and displaying some general information like,turn off your cell phone,throw your trash away,visit our concession stand. Big Lake Our first movie was UP! We had a windy day that day and ended up suspending the screen on the side of the school building, not the perfect way to do a movie, but it worked. We estimate about 400 to 500 people showed up for the movie. Delano Our second movie was Over the Hedge. This movie we set up in the middle of the street for the first time, it worked perfectly! And we would be happy to set up in the street anywhere, anytime. 150 to 200 people watched this movie Maple Lake • Weather Trivia; Did you know that it rained 20 days in June? Well,three of those rainy days were Maple Lake movie days. OK, not all of the rain outs were in June but we ended up canceling three movies for Maple Lake,the last one we were all set up when we decided to call it. We did however end up showing Planet 51 on the last day of July under a perfect sky. We played to about 200 people Watertown An interesting show, we played Percy Jackson and the Olympians to a crowd of about 100. But what made this show different was the youth group that sponsored the movie had set up live music performed by local artists. We provided the microphone and speakers and they played their instruments. I created a special preshow for this event, not the usual "Kids show" stuff, I tried to make it more appealing to a teenage crowd. Rockford Sponsored by the local food shelf,the concessions at Rockford were by far the best, homemade bars and cookies played well to a crowd of about 250 to 300. As we were watching Monsters vs. Aliens, we were also watching the weather radar, a storm was approaching. We did however with the help of my friends and the Rockford fire department get everything disassembled and put into the trailer about 10 minutes before the first raindrop fell. And it did fall, I returned the trailer to the storage unit in Buffalo as the rain came down in buckets. Monticello Another well attended movie,The blind side, hosted about 400 people and played without incident. • We have 11 movies left to do this summer Parades I just want to say, I love the production trailer! With every parade we get a little better, a little faster, and a little more cohesive. Bill and the boys did a tremendous job and I just want to thank them. When the trailer is done I will have a mobile production studio where I can do anything from council meetings in a gymnasium to, as I mentioned earlier, a music and art program. And maybe by 2015 a baseball game or two, as well as editing productions. It is a mobile studio that I can set up in any city and work on any project. The Buffalo, Big Lake, Delano, Monticello, Elk River and Watertown parades are done and we have had great feedback from the cities. Cokato, Rockford, and Dassel parades remain.
