• Sherburne Wright Cable Commission 1st Quarter 2011 Report Trailer Trivia This year,in about a month's time we have already done 8 trailer shoots! These productions have been very popular with all our cities and we have started to amass an amazing group of volunteers. We have worked in varied conditions from blizzards to sub zero temperatures, but still we have managed to log over 200 volunteer hours for this month. That is an impressive statistic considering that we are just unveiling coverage of community based sports. The volunteers have included a wide range of people from parents, teachers, students and coaches to a father and daughter duo who announced the girl's basketball game we covered in Delano. On Tuesday night,February 1st, I was really impressed by the work a high school senior girl did announcing the girl's basketball game all by herself between Buffalo and Big Lake. She knew every player and all their stats and even was able to name off all the pep band members and cheerleaders. The response to our community coverage has been exciting. We have received many • positive comments from so many people. Mark has done a great job working with the student camera operators. Almost to a person they have asked to be called again when we are shooting an event in their town. The real impressive stat though is the number of new viewers we are creating for each cities government channel. People would much rather watch their children, relatives and friends then see a replay of a movie for the 40th time! We are also archiving each event that we tape and saving them for the time when we can play them back on our future area wide channel. Trailer Upgrades We have added new storage to the front and back of the trailer. After months of tripping over our giant cases,we designed a new type of drawer based storage for all the equipment P« Y St e 4414.■ • 4i4 ,. • In addition to cleaning up things, it has provided a better way to secure our equipment and provide better inventory control. With so many volunteers working with us,it has created a way for us to have a much faster and safer setup at each event. We have also added a high speed wireless system in our trailer that gives us the ability to send video to Buffalo Channel 12 and our future area wide channel. This is the same technology that is currently in use by the Buffalo Police department in each of their squad cars. We are in the process of working with other cities to configure their networks so we can access their Ultra Nexus and thus their government channel remotely. I will be contacting each city to setup a meeting with you and the city IT staff to review the necessary configurations. Streaming Pilot Project We are nearing the end of a successful pilot project in Buffalo where we have been streaming their government Channel 12, 24 hours a day on the internet. This has allowed anyone with an internet connection to watch Buffalo's programming. The streaming works in conjunction with the Leightronix Ultra-Nexus. I have attached information regarding how the service works. It puts very little strain on the city network with only one 500Kb/s outbound stream. The City of Buffalo has been very happy with • the pilot project. I will have pricing information at the next meeting after reviewing the information with our commission treasurer. If you are getting requests to implement this from your council please see me after the meeting. SmartBoard PC Upgrades We have finished upgrading custom SmartBoard systems in 4 of our cities. We are currently working on 2 more. These systems have speeded up operation of the SmartBoards and Sympodiums and have received positive reviews in each city that has had the upgrade. Edit System Software Upgrades We have upgraded our fearless producer's laptop edit system with Adobe Creative Suite 5. We are in the process of upgrading other edit systems where necessary. Indoor Movie Screen We have taken delivery of our indoor movie screen system. This will allow us to beat Mother Nature at her own game and hold movies in spite of inclement weather. If you would like to schedule an indoor movie please contact Mark and he will put it on our calendar. ms's 4 .j:;1.0' F , .A. ext m ,_ tati Affordable Live Streaming Deliver live programming to viewers around the world with this affordable, power-packed live streaming solution.
