2nd Quarter 2011 Report
New Logo
We have been working diligently in preparation for the day when our area wide channel is activated by
Charter. We are currently working on loading all the software and programming into the new
equipment. Once we are hooked up by Charter we will be ready to start using the channel to playback
the backlog of programs that we have produced over the last year and add the new ones we are
producing this spring and summer.
We have created a new logo for the channel and we are using the graphics to create a brand identity so
that it becomes familiar to our viewers when they see it. The graphic shows all our member cities
community iconic images.

Area Wide Channel Logo-Web Site Front Page
When we activate our commission web page we plan on having each city icon move when the viewers'
mouse passes over it. For example when someone moves their mouse next to the Elk River elk he will
move his head up and down and then the page will open up to the Elk River PEG Central page. By
animating the icons we think that this will cause people to explore the map and visit all 10 cities to see
what the icons will do.
Please notice that we have also added other icons such as one for our"Movie in the Parks"program.
People will be able to click on this icon and see when movies are scheduled in all our cities with added
0 information about start times and sponsors.
Other Icons: •
When a viewer clicks on the icon of our production trailer they will see a list of the events that the trailer
will be at such as parades, sporting events and candidate forums.
The icon of our commission store will provide a place for people to purchase DVD's of parades,
sporting events and other programs that they want a copy of.
We also have an icon of our fictional TV station which will be the place to go to and see the channel
schedule and find out more about our commission and staff.
Viewers can sign up at the area wide channel recruitment center if they would like to run camera on a
trailer shoot or find out about any city openings for cable casters.
Branding
The map is not meant to be an accurate representation of every road and river but to be a portal into the
world that is the Sherburne Wright Cable Commission and its TV channels. It is a one stop place for
viewers to go to have their questions answered about everything that we do.
We are excited to see how many volunteers as well as new viewers it will attract to our channels each
time they see our trailer with this logo at city festivals and events. We want to print t-shirts with the logo
on it to give to our volunteers so that when they run one of our cameras at a production shoot,people
will take notice and understand that we our their community government channel.
Equipment Needs Assessment •
We are in the process of doing a long term equipment needs assessment in each of our commission
member cities. This assessment will look at improvements needed to keep our channels and council
chambers running effectively while upgrading to the High Definition format.
Phasing in this equipment is becoming necessary as replacement pieces for the SD format are becoming
harder and harder to find. If I have not contacted you already I will be soon.
After all the meetings are done I will prepare a needs assessment report and present it to the
commission. I expect to have it completed for the fall quarterly commission meeting.
City Inter-Connection Progress
We have completed the necessary IT interconnection work in the following cities Buffalo, Watertown,
Dassel and Maple Lake as well as the area wide channel.
This connection will allow us to send programming to each city government channel via the internet.
We are using the Ultra Nexus equipment in each city to complete this interface. We hope to have the
remainder of the cities operational before their parades.

• Delano Flood Cam
We installed a camera on a local ice cream shop's roof and pointed it at the bridge crossing the Crow
River in Delano. Using the Leightronix PEG Vault and PEG Streaming equipment we were able to
stream a 24 hour live shot of the river to the city of Delano's web site so the citizens of Delano could
monitor the rising water.
Hundreds of people monitored the city web site and also came down to the river to look at the camera.
We could see people waving at our camera while talking on their cell phones presumably to people who
were watching them on the internet.
Several news stations shot video of our equipment for the nightly news. The ice cream shop owner,
whose is a former Delano mayor, reported a huge increase in business. Mark is using the video we
recorded with the PEG Vault to create a program about the event. This was an extremely creative use of
our equipment and it was gratifying to see that so many people enjoyed it.
Maple Lake City Hall Building Interface
Before the Maple Lake St. Patrick's Day Parade we installed a building interface that allowed us to
connect our trailer to City Hall without having to run cables through the front door. We ran Cat5 cables
across the ceiling to the playback equipment and also ran our AC with the assistance of Jerry Sawatzke,
Maple Lake's Public Works Director.
We would like to install similar outlets in our buildings where we do frequent trailer shoots. This really
helps in the winter as it keeps our cables off the ground and away from running children and keeps the
cold air out of buildings.
In the future if you are planning any remodeling or other construction to city buildings, schools or
community centers please let me know so we can see if this type of interface is possible.

Equipment Upgrade Requests •
Monticello- Monticello is requesting that we provide projectors, small sound systems and AV interfaces
for 2 rooms attached to their council chambers. These projectors and AV interfaces will allow staff to
prepare SmartBoard and Sympodium presentations before council meetings. We will need to match the
projector and equipment that are already installed in the council chambers.

Elk River—Elk River has requested that we provide a new camcorder to replace 2 older units that no
longer work correctly. They also need a new PC for their Council Chambers SmartBoard system.

• Movies in the Park Equipment
The commission also needs to purchase a new screen surface for its Movies in the Park
equipment. This surface has sustained damage over the past 2 seasons and needs to be
replaced. Our first movie is May 20th in Monticello. If we order the screen today we will
have it in time for this usage.
The cost for the screen surface is $2099.60
The total for all equipment requests this quarter is $20,092.60
