SUBJECT: Authorization to Hire Paid On-Call Firefighters
The Elk River Fire Department is requesting Council approval to advertise for paid on-call
fIrefIghters. Two fIrefIghters, Jeremiah Sims and Steve Greene, recendy resigned due to their
relocation outside of the City of Elk River.
I anticipate the hiring process of the new fIrefIghters to take approximately three months with the
screening of applications, interviewing of potential applicants, returning to the Council with the
names of the potential candidates, fIrefIghter physicals, and stress tests.
I will be in attendance at the October 4, 2004 City Council meeting to answer any questions in
reference to the addition of paid on-call fuefIghters for the Elk River Fire Department. If you have
any questions prior to the City Council meeting, please feel free to call me at the Elk River Fire

It is requested that the Mayor and City Council authorize the advertising of paid on-call fIrefIghters
for the Elk River Fire Department.
