Staff has received four applications for consideration for appointment to the vacancies on
the Planrilng Commission. Commissioners Curtis and Pederson resigned effective the end
of September. Commissioner Curtis' term expires February 28, 2007 and Commissioner
Pederson's term expires February 28, 2006.
Requested Action
The City Council is asked to interview the four applicants and appoint two to fill the
vacancies on the P1anrUng Commission.

I strongly believe in community involvement by citizens. I am currently involved
with the Elk River Fire Department and community programs they sponsor. I was
reappointed to a second 4-year term by Governor Pawlenty to the Peace Officers
Standards & Training Board, I serve as a board member and as Chairman of the
Complaint committee.
Prior to living in Elk River I lived in Monticello, and previous to that lived in
Brooklyn Park. I was appointed to two terms on the Brooklyn Park Charter
Commission and served as Secretary, Vice President, and President of the firefighter
relief association.
Having grown up in Buffalo, the son of small business owners, I know the
importance of why people gravitate to cities like Elk River, and I understand the
importance of balancing planned community growth with maintaining the
atmosphere that promotes neighborliness.
EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Describe YOU! educational and professional experience or skills that qualify you to serve on
this board or commission.
I have served on many committees and boards both within the public sector as well
as the private. My involvement with MADD being on of my proudest.
I am currendy finishing my senior paper and expect to graduate with honors with a
degree in Public Administration, with a law enforcement emphasis.
As a member of the state patrol I have testified at the state capitol regarding a
number of issues. My education and experience has given me many opportunities to
watch how government works.

Comments: Regardless of where I have worked, as an employee or volunteer I have
worked tirelessly to better the community or organization. I would greatly .
appreciate the opportunity to be part of the team that helps plan the future of the
City of Elk River and its citizens.
