Discuss 2005 Legislative Issues
District 48 Senator Michael Jungbauer has requested feedback from the City Council
regarding important legislative issues for this upcoming session (see attached letter). This
topic was discussed at the last department head meeting. Major issues identified by myself
and the department heads include:

Transportation funding (gas tax increase?)
Highway 10 improvements
Northstar Corridor project
Financial support for the Kelley farm (MN Historical Society funding)
Continuing to oppose proposals for wine in grocery stores
Maintaining state aids (including LGA) and opposing levy limits

To the great City of Elk River,
With the legislative session starting in January, I have started a new initiative to get
acquainted with the legislative issues that are most important to local government in my
district before the chaos of the legislative session ensues. I am asking that each of the
cities in Senate District 48 compile a list of the five most important things they would
like to see ftom the state legislature this coming session.
Once the cities respond and we have a good idea of what local government in District 48
is looking for out of the legislature, we will then be able to move ahead with legislation
that if passed win benefit and strengthen om local communities. I thank you for your
time and effort in this endeavor, and look forward to working with you,
