This report is a monthly highlight of department activities related to collaboration, strategic
planning, staff changes/development,and park operations.
Rivers Edge Commons Park Expansion Project
Staff has been working with HKGi on the construction bid documents for the Rivers Edge
Commons Park Expansion Project. HKGi was hired by the city in July to develop the construction
documents and oversee construction administration. Construction documents are nearly 60%
completed and are based on the concept plan approved by the Comission and City Council.
City Council in November provided consensus for staff to move ahead on the bidding process for
construction and return back to Council with the bids. The timeframe to bring this back to City
Council for bid approval is in March. This includes bidding the additional elements shown on the
concept plan. Additional elements include the west stairway,lighting,new upper plaza and
expanded stage.
The bid documents for this project will include an opportunity to show a deduct if construction
begins in the fall 2016 instead of this spring. It is posssble with the current bidding environment
that the city may receive more promising bid packages for a fall project. Therefore, staff will not
know until March if the bids are approved,when the concert series will officially begin and end.
Currently, staff has scheduled bands for the dates of June 30 through August 11.
Riverfront Concert Series 2016
Because of the unknown construction schedule, staff is currently scheduling bands for the dates of
June 30 through August 11. Most of these dates have already been filled. Concert dates prior to
June 30 or after August 11 will not be considered until the bids are reviewed in March. The Bank of
Elk River has expressed interest to continue sponsoring the Riverfront Concerts Series with a
different sponsoring package proposed by staff.
City Annual Boards/Commissions Recognition Dinner
The city annual board and commissions dinner has been scheduled for Thursday, February 25 at
Rockwoods. Formal invitations will go out towards the end of this month.
