The competitive strategy action step in the 2002-2004 Strategic Industrial Marketing Plan is
to collect and maintain current information on key competitive communities. Staff
continues to monitor key competitors and has requested that the MN Dept. of Employment
&Economic Development (DEED) provide a custom labor market analysis comparing Elk
River to its neighboring communities. DEED provides custom analysis/presentations of
statistical labor market information to communities throughout the State of Minnesota per
request. This service is free of charge.
Cameron Macht, DEED Labor Market Analyst (see attached bio),will present his fmdings at
the EDA meeting and he will elaborate on the attached materials. Mr. Macht will answer any
questions the EDA might have during his estimated twenty-minute presentation.

Speaker Bio:
Cameron Macht is the Regional Labor Market Analyst in the Central and Southwest Regions
for the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. Cameron
provides regional stakeholders with accessible expertise and analysis services; and extends
labor market information to assist in planning and decision making. He can be reached at

In the last year, the DEED Regional Analysis team handled more than 1,000 requests,
ranging from quick fact-finding to research design, analysis,, and internal consulting
services. In addition, the team delivered over 120 presentations, briefings, and trainings to
audiences interested in labor market dynamics, trends, workforce shortages, and availability
of statistics. DEED outreach services are designed to provide WorkForce Center staff and
regional audiences with a better understanding of the labor market. Regional Analysts also
collaborate with regional stakeholders and other researchers to develop new research and

Prior to joining DEED, Cameron was a Marketing Manager for Wilson Learning, a corporate
training company in the Twin Cities. He edited the company's quarterly journal and

managed Wilson Learning's website and internal knowledge management resources. Other
responsibilities included market research, internal communications, and some database
management. He has also worked as a Marketing Specialist for the Northspan Group, a non-
profit economic development consultancy in Duluth; and as the Research Director for Mill
City Marketing, a market research firm in the Twin Cities. He graduated magna cum laude
with a B.B.A. in Organizational Management and Marketing from the University of
Minnesota, Duluth. Cameron is originally from Raymond.
