Action Requested
Approve, by motion, the promotion of Detective Joseph Gacke to the position of Detective Sergeant
effective 4:31 p.m., February 26, 2016.
Background/Discussion
The Detective Sergeant position will be vacant as Sergeant Bryan Vita is scheduled to retire effective 4:30
p.m. February 26, 2016.
The Detective Sergeant is responsible for supervision of the Police Department Detective Division
consisting of six detectives. Per the Police Department job description, interview process, and
qualifications for the position, Joseph Gacke is exceptionally qualified for the position.
Joseph Gacke is a 14-year veteran of the Elk River Police Department. He was hired as a police officer
on July 9, 2001, and was promoted to detective on June 1, 2006.
Financial Impact
The position is currently budgeted and due to the retirement of Sergeant Vita there will be no financial
impact to the city. The pay rate is per the union contract.
