Strategic Industrial Marketing Plan Update
At last month's EDA meeting, Anita Duckor of Duckor & Associates was hired to

During June and July, staff and Ms. Duckor will, among other duties, be completing
the following activities:
• Interviews with pending and lost clients, key accounts, advertising sponsors, and
community leaders
• Tours of surrounding communities' industrial and/or business parks in order to

In 1999, a marketing committee was formed to assist in the original plan's
development, which included the following members:
• Jim Barthel
• Chris Carlson
• Dr. David Flannery
• Renee Sande

Economic Development Association of Minnesota's (EDAM) Best Advertising
Campaign award. Staff will be presented with the award on June 26, 2002 at EDAM's
summer conference.
The City's Communication Strategy & Brand Plan was nominated for the League of

LMC Annual Conference,June 18-21, 2002.
Article
In the May 27, 2002 MN Real Estate Journal article "Public-Private Communication
Crucial for Economic Development", David Piggott discusses the advantages of
strengthening the communication lines between the private and public sectors when
dealing with economic development. Efficient communication allows for smoother
project deals between both sectors and increased business leads due to better
networking.
• Building relationships with key accounts (brokers and developers) is a high priority
within the City's Strategic Industrial Marketing Plan.
