EDSR 09-09-2002 al ....i . , lEik ity River MEMORANDUM TO: Economic Development Authority i l 8 FROM: Heidi Hall, Economic Development Assistant nm # DATE: September 9, 2002 SUBJECT: Strategic Industrial Marketing Activities Update Attachment • Features from the August 2002 Minnesota Real Estate Journal Leasing Guide Public Relations Strategy The EDA recently accepted the Strategic Industrial Marketing Action Plan for 2002-2004. • The Plan includes a Public Relations Strategy in which Anita Duckor of Duckor& Associates recommended that the EDA hire a public relations writer/consultant. In response to the EDA's acceptance of the Plan, staff met with Ms. Duckor and Michael Porter of MCPorter Marketing Communications, Inc. to discuss the Public Relations Strategy. Mr. Porter will propose a two-year strategy that staff will bring to the EDA for consideration at its October 14th meeting. Key Accounts & Lead Generation Strategy Staff is currently developing a schedule of regular contact and meetings with key accounts for the remainder of this year and the year 2003,which may be presented during the October marketing activities update. Manufacturers & Technology Week, October 21-25, 2002 Staff is working with the Elk River Area Chamber of Commerce to plan Elk River's recognition of Manufacturers &Technology Week. Preliminary plans include plant tours of energy related industries, a luncheon,keynote speaker and a visit to the Elk River Landfill Gas-to-Electric facility open house. The event will be advertised in the October Elk River Area Chamber of Commerce Newsletter. In addition,Tammy Miller Design is designing an advertisement for placement in the October 23`d issue of the Elk River Star News in recognition of all Elk River manufacturers. Furthermore, staff is working with SoftPac Industries to organize a plant tour and ribbon-cutting event for city officials in October. ••• Economic Development & Site Selection Conference Staff will be participating in the 2002 Economic Development& Site Selection Conference sponsored by the Minnesota Real Estate Journal (MREJ) and the University of St. Thomas. The event will take place on October 8. Staff developed a display exhibit and spoke at last year's conference,which proved to be an effective industrial marketing venue. It was an event in which 250 real estate brokers, developers and property managers attended. This year, staff will utilize the same display exhibit and speak as part of a round table discussion regarding municipal and business park marketing plans and incentives. Advertising The attached advertisement and article featured Sportech in the August 2002 issue of the Minnesota Real Estate Journal Leasing Guide. Marketech was also featured in the same publication.
