Product Offering Strategy The Director of Economic Development will provide a brief report regarding industrial land development following the update of marketing activities. Customer Feedback Survey Staff worked with Duckor&Associates to develop a Customer Feedback Survey that will be distributed via e-mail and/or regular mail to past and present clients (see attachment). Tammy Miller Design designed the survey,which has been reviewed and approved by the staff Industrial Siting Team. I I. Competitive Strategy Staff has continued to add to the existing Competitive Analysis file,which includes articles and general information about development projects and marketing of competing communities. I I I. Key Account/Lead Generation Strategy Staff met with key account, MN Technology, to discuss the establishment of a possible program that would provide manufacturing prospects with technical assistance from the onset of a project. 410 Staff will be sending a holiday greeting card to active prospects and key accounts. Promotions & Advertising Strategy Inquiries Staff will provide a summary of 2002 prospects/inquiries at the January meeting. Staff participated in a training on ACT contact management software that will be utilized to better track inquiries and key accounts. Economic Development Web Page Staff has continued to develop the Economic Development web page,which is located within the City's web site at www.ci.elk-river.mn.us. Site details such as water/sewer capacity, electrical capacity, and copper cable/fiber optic availability (specific to each available site) has been added to the web page. Recently, staff received valuable input from the Siting Team regarding the Site Location Assistance portion of the web page. 2003 Ad Campaign Staff met with Tammy Miller Design to continue preparation for next year's Strategic Industrial Advertising Campaign. MN Real Estate Journal North-by-Northwest Market Update Conference Staff attended this conference,which was held on November 22nd. The event featured development opportunities in Wright,Anoka, and Sherburne Counties. About 100 people attended the event,including developers,professional site selectors and brokers. 411 Sherburne County co-sponsored the event and displayed a booth featuring Becker,Big Lake, and Elk River. Each of the three cities was able to place an ad and article in a special insert of the MN Real Estate Journal (see attachment). V. Public Relations Strategy Energy City The redesign of the Energy City web site and the Energy City brochure is underway. The nine displays (featuring Energy City partners) that hang in the Environmental Learning Center at the Landfill Gas-to-Electric facility will be displayed on the web site. Public Relations Article Staff worked with MCPorter Marketing Communications to finalize an article that was featured in the November MN Real Estate Journal North-by-Northwest Insert. A newsletter is also being developed,which will be sent to manufacturing companies in the NW Metro,prospects/inquiries, and Elk River manufacturers. Staff anticipates mailing the newsletter in January. VI. Strategic Partnership Strategy Downtown Revitalization Project Staff is working with MetroPlains to plan for an open house,hosted by the developer, to gather public input on preliminary concepts for the downtown revitalization area. The open house will be held in mid-February. Strategic Industrial Marketing Activities Update December 9,2002 Page 3 of 3 • Currently,MetroPlains has begun to make contact with property owners in the revitalization area through Ken Brooks of KJB Real Estate Services. In addition, the HRA has selected S.E.H. as the engineering firm to conduct the initial TIF inspections for the project. VII. Business Retention Strategy Business Retention Program Staff has continued to establish the 2003-2004 Business Retention Program Schedule. The attached schedule reflects those EDA members who have signed up to visit with several of the Elk River manufacturers. Staff requests that the remaining members indicate which manufacturers he/she would like to visit. Staff will contact EDA members individually to schedule the meetings.
