SUBJECT: Special Meeting of the Elk River Heritage Preservation Commission
This is a brief discussion of the meeting on Wednesday,February 24,2016, at 6:00 p.m. at the
Elk River City Hall in the Uppertown Conference Room. The agenda is included with this
memo.
General Business
5.1 Water Tower Subcommittee Update
Chair Fox will provide an update about establishing a 501 (c)(3) in partnership with the
Kelley Farm. Establishing a non-profit will allow the subcommittee to accept tax
deductible donations for future work on the tower and larger area.
5.2 Discuss Grant Opportunities and Plans for Water Tower
With the completion of the Condition Assessment document last August we are ready to
move to the next step of the restoration process.There are a few grant opportunities that
we can apply for to take the project to the next step. I will outline the programs available
and we will discuss the best route for the city and HPC to pursue. We will also discuss
plans for the land,in addition to the tower.
5.3 Consider 2015 HPC Annual Report
The 2015 HPC annual report is included in the packet.The report is a requirement to
maintaining our Certified Local Government Status. Please review the report and let me
know if you have any concerns.
Staff Update
6.1 Attendance Policy Update
The City Council adopted a new attendance policy earlier this year. The policy states that
Commission members must attend at least 75% of the meetings in a rolling 12 month
period. Members will be automatically removed if they do not meet the requirement.
