SUBJECT: Committee Appointments
On behalf of the Elk River EDA, I wish to thank the members of the above-referenced
committees for their continued contributions to the respective committees. Your
willingness to volunteer time and to lend expertise has helped make Elk River a better
place to live, work, learn, and play.
The EDA's bylaws identify the three advisory committees. Appointments/reappointments
to these committees have been done at the EDA's annual meeting in January. Typically,
committee members are contacted to determine a willingness to continue to serve on their
• respective committee. Some committees are more active than others. For example, the
finance committee meets several times during the year to consider requests for a micro-
loan. The R&D committee was reactivated and it played a large role in the business park
task force assignments. The marketing committee has been less active. However, all
committee members receive agendas of upcoming meetings together with a draft of the
minutes from the previous meeting. This is one small way to help keep committee
members informed of EDA issues.
At the October 9 EDA meeting, commissioners discussed upcoming appointments and/or
reappointments to their committees. No EDA commissioner anticipates a complete
turnover in the respective committees. However, an obligation is owed to other residents
in the community so as to encourage more citizen involvement. As a result, the EDA will
prepare an ad for publication in the Star News. The ad will solicit citizen interest in
serving on the various EDA committees. It will be made clear in the ad that a prospective
appointee to the finance committee should have certain abilities to help make credit
decisions. In addition, the ad will also caution prospective appointees that some
appointments may be task-oriented and the committee may not be activated until a specific
issue presents itself. The EDA also desires to retain local lender representation on
finance committee.
Again, thank you for your continued contributions to the EDA committees. It is our
desire to keep you updated as to the status of the appointments/reappointments.
