Approve, by motion, the final plans for Quiet Zone Improvements and authorize advertisement for bids.
Background/Discussion
Staff has finalized plans and specifications for this project. We will make a presentation that details the
improvements proposed at all crossings and estimated schedule for completion. Upon approval of the
plans staff will advertise the project for bids.
A number of the improvements shown in the plans will be completed at the schedule of the BNSF. We
continue to work with BNSF and MnDOT to advance the schedule of this work. Because agreements
for some of this work have yet to be finalized, we have identified the phasing of the improvements in the
plans.
Financial Impact
Costs for the quiet zone project remain consistent with previous estimates detailed in the Capital
Improvement Plan. When bids are received a final budget including all construction and BNSF costs will
be tabulated for the consideration of the Council before award of the final contract.
