SUBJECT: PROSPECT STATUS REPORT
The following is a summary of new industrial and commercial prospects that
have expressed an interest in locating in the City of Elk River since the last
EDA meeting.
• NEW PROSPECTS
1. Real Estate Agent-Architect: EDA Main Street Site:
Staff is working with a real-estate agent who has previously expressed
interest in the EDA Main Street redevelopment site. The agent and an
architect friend visited with the Economic Development Coordinator
regarding their concepts with this site. In addition, the agent and
architect attended the March 3rd work session.
2.- Resident Inquiry/EDA Main Street Site:
Staff also discussed the EDA Main Street redevelopment site with a
resident of the community. This person, along with friends and
associates in the restaurant business, believe the site can support a
restaurant. This person also attended the workshop session.
3. Maple Grove Manufacturer
Staff contacted a Maple Grove business which is owned by Mr. John
Hasslen, an Elk River resident. The company designs and assembles

approximately 200 products- many of which are used during an
environmental clean up, or, as monitoring devices at landfills_ The

company currently leases approximately 12,000 square feet of space in
• a multi-tenant building. This company seeks a 40 to 100 acre site for
an initial expansion of a 30,000 square foot facility. The company
projects it will have space needs of 100,000 square feet in 7 to 10 years.
The company desires a large tract of land because environmental
concerns are a driving force for the company. In addition, the company
believes that with a large parcel, it can create its own self contained
work environment. That is, the site may have its own waste water
treatment facility, its own recycling initiatives, and, it may have
numerous other expansion sites to support this environment.
4. Television Programming Business:
Staff responded to an inquiry from a St.Paul-based TV programming
operation that desired both suitable expansion sites plus capital for
equipment, production expenses, and staffing.
5. Consultant Prospect:
Staff is working with a consultant that has been retained by a Metro
retailing concern. The retailer desires a highway commercial site in
Elk River- particularly along the Highway 169 corridor.

6. Coronodo Stone Products:
This Moundsview-based company seeks a 15,000 to 20,000 square foot
building or a 4 acre vacant site as part of a relocation project.
7. Gemini Communications:
This Elk River business desires an industrial site suitable for 2,000
square feet to 3,000 square feet of facility space.
8. Micro-Tech Hearing Instruments:
This is an Eden Prairie hearing instruments company that desires a
business park site for the construction of a 10,500 square foot
production and office facility. The company currently employs 45
persons in Eden Prairie plus 15 persons in a telemarketing center in
St.Cloud. The candidate cities for this expansion include Elk River,
Fairbault, Princeton, and New Richmond ,Wisconsin.

• 9. Realtor Inquiry:
A person retained by a company to find 10,000 square feet of existing
space inquired as to the availability of such space in Elk River. This
inquiry was referred to Jerry McChesney and All Tool Manufacturing.
