EDSR 10-11-1993 ELK RIVER ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY TO: ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY FROM: WILLIAM RUBIN, ED COORDINATO ;NO0, DATE: OCTOBER 6, 1993 SUBJECT: PROSPECT STATUS REPORT The following is a summary of new industrial and commercial prospects that have expressed an interest in locating in the City of Elk River since the last. EDA meeting. NEW PROSPECTS 1 . J & J Machine - J & J Machine is an Elk River precision machining and job shop located ,at 16720 Jarvis Street NW. As a result of continued growth, the company is exploring available sites for an expansion. The company currently operates in a building of approximately 10,000 square feet. A new facility would likely contain 20-25,000 square feet. J & J currently employs approximately 25 people. No decision is anticipated until spring of 1994 . The owner of the company did receive information on III available sites (sewer and water) in Elk River. 2 . Folded Carton Business - A start-up business which deals exclusively in folded cartons inquired about available existing industrial space. The company seeks approximately 8,000 square feet and, was put in touch with Jerry McChesney. 3. Lee Bros . Company - This is a New Hope based metal stamping company that seeks one to two acres of property. The prospect was referred by Mr. Gene Chouinard of Edina Realty. The company received information on available sites as well as financing programs . 4 . Trend Scientific - This is a New Brighton based medical product company which prepares and distributes agent-based diagnostic test kits (used to diagnose infections, bacteria, etc. ) . The company currently leases 15,000 square feet in a multi-tennant commercial building, but seeks to construct a 25,000 to 30,000 square foot facility within two years . The company owner is a resident of Ramsey and has friends and business associates in Elk • River. Trend Scientific currently employs 25 to 30 persons and expects to employ 50 people in two, years . Foam Technologies, Inc. - This prospect originated from the Department of Trade and Economic Development (DIED) . The prospect is a manufacturer of foam fabrication specialty products . The company is currently based in north Minneapolis and would prefer to lease space.. Its space requirements are approximately 85,000 square feet. Another option would be a build to suit facility although that option is of lower priority. PREVIOUSLY LISTED PROSPECTS 1 . BRUMAR This Elk River company is currently seeking financing through its primary lender and through the Central Minnesota Initiative Fund for the purpose of acquiring $130,000 to $140,000 worth of new mills and lathes . The City Council adopted a resolution of support for the application to the Initiative Fund at its meeting on October 4th. 2 . McLean Midwest No additional information is available • regarding McLean Midwest. It is widely believed that the company has settled on a site along Highway 169 in Champlin. The City of Elk River is not in receipt of any formal notification. • CITY OF ELK RIVER INFORMATION NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING The Elk River City Council will conduct a public hearing on Monday, October 18, 1993, at 7 p.m. , at the Elk River City Hall, 13065 Orono Parkway, to consider a request by John 0. Oliver, and Lynn R. Caswell to subdivide approximately 5 1/2 acres into three industrial lots. The property is generally located north of County Road No. 1 and east of Watson Street alignment (Meadowvale Commercial Park). Legal description of the subject property is that part of the North Half of the Southwest Quarter of Section 28, Township 33, Range 26, Sherburne County, Minnesota; lying north of the North line of the right-of-way of County State Aid Highway No. 1; lying west of the Westerly line of the right-of-way of the discontinued Burlington Northern Railroad Company (formerly the Great Northern Railway) ; and lying east of a line described as Commencing at the Northwest corner of said North Half of the Southwest • Quarter; thence on an assumed bearing of East along the North line thereof for 860.89 feet to the actual Point of Beginning of the line to be hereby described; thence South 0 degrees 08 minutes 50 seconds West for 271.80 feet, more or less, to intersect with and terminate at said north line of the highway right-of-way. As part of the review process for requests of this nature, we attempt to notify all property owners at least 350 feet in distance from the subject property. Tax records from the Sherburne County Auditor's Office indicate that you own property within or near the 350 foot requirement.
