6.1.E. ERMUSR 04-12-2016 Elk River Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING TO: FROM: Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission Eric Volk-Water Superintendent John Dietz—Chair Al Nadeau—Vice Chair Daryl Thompson—Trustee MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER: April 12, 2016 6.1e SUBJECT: Staff Update DISCUSSION: • Delivered four new residential water meters. • Sealed the water meter, and took curb stop ties from five water services. • Went on six service calls. • Completed 25 BACTUTotal Chlorine Residual Samples o All confirmed negative for Coliform Bacteria. • Completed 20 routine fluoride samples o All samples met MDH standards. • The painters finished sandblasting and painting the pipes and filter at Well#3. EH Renner also installed the new vertical line shaft turbine pump and motor. We are in the process of reinstalling all of the chemical feed equipment back into the well. We still have some control wiring which Tony Hubbard is helping us complete. We should have the well up and running within the next week or two. • The operators have also been working on a laundry list of small improvements in all of the other wells. This is done so we can do our best to ensure our wells make it through the busy season. • On April 4,we discovered during daily rounds that Well#7 would not run. The well had alarmed the prior Saturday, and Mike Langer utilized SCADA to ensure the well would not be called upon for production. During our investigation we discovered that all three legs of the motor tested poorly. We are in the process of determining the next course of action. The current Pleuger motor is a low speed motor, which is more expensive to replace. We may be able to replace the motor and do some pump modifications for less money than it is to just replace the Pleuger motor.
