Action Requested
Approve, by motion, the hiring of Benjamin Nordstrom for the position of Ice Arena Lead Worker
effective May 17, 2016.
Background/Discussion
Following the resignation of Ice Arena Lead Worker Joel Heaton, we went to market to fill the position.
We received 18 applications and interviewed six candidates. Following second interviews with two
candidates, staff recommends hiring Benjamin Nordstrom.
While pursuing his degree in Sports Management, Mr. Nordstrom has been working for Mariucci/Ridder
Arenas, the Tom Lehman Practice Facility and Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. Mr. Nordstrom’s
previous work experience includes the Champlin Ice Forum, Brooklyn Park Community Center, and the
Iowa State University Ice Arena in Ames.
Mr. Nordstrom will be paid at Step A of pay grade 5. With satisfactory performance, Mr. Nordstrom will
be eligible for a step increase on January 1, 2017. All other pay and benefits will be consistent with city
policy.
Financial Impact
This is a budgeted position.
