Subject: Supplemental Agenda Information
5.1 Youth Committee
Kristin,TA, and Beth Balmanno have met to discuss the youth committee. The application
and more information is available online at http://elkrivermn.gov/Index.asi2x?NID=1282.
Attached you will find the bi-laws detailing the committee responsibilities and a flyer for the
upcoming interest meeting. Please pass along to anyone who may be interested.
5.2 University of St. Thomas Sustainable Communities Partnership
Kristin will present the results of the Spring 2016 semester classes working on plastic bag
reductions; GIS mapping of the William H. Houlton Conservation Area, bike lanes,and
wetland buffers; and a green roof design for the Waste Water Treatment Facility.
5.3 Climate Smart Municipalities
Kristin will provide an overview of the Climate Smart Municipalities program. See this article
about the partnership!
5.4 Green Corps
Elk River applied for and was awarded a MN Green Corps member to start in September of
2016. The member will focus on green transportation for the community and will work full
time for one year. If you know of any young adults who may be interested in working for
Green Corps,they are accepting applications now.
5.5 Energy City Action Plan Review and Updates
The Energy City Action Plan was adopted in July of 2014.Annually,we like to review the
plan to see what projects have been completed and what is left to do. Please see the attached
version. A discussion about amendments with possible action may occur if needed.

5.6 Energy City Signage
In the past,the ECC has discussed signage related to project specific examples as an
education resource. Discuss budget availability and possible project ideas.
8.2 Staff Updates
A group of Energy City Commissioners and city staff attended a tour of e-ride Industries in
Princeton,MN. e-ride manufactures 100% electric utility vehicles and will custom design
orders for the client's needs. City staff was very interested to the design and learn about
maintenance and costs involved. Discussions with city staff are continuing on lease/buy
options for the city fleet.
