Patron Services Department Restructure
In April the GRRL Board of Trustees approved the restructure of the Patron Services department
by eliminating the Associate Director of Patron Services position. This change makes the
Executive Director more involved with communications and decisions impacting the local level,
creates an additional regional librarian position charged with outreach services, and enables us to
double the local program/outreach funding allotment. Local staff will be using these additional
funds to do things like attend Chamber of Commerce meetings or have a meeting with the local
Community Education director, take story-times out of the library to daycares or other venues,
have library-card-sign-ups at the Farmer's Market, etc.
VuFind Is Online
In March I told you about VuFind, our new `discovery layer' for the GRRL catalog. In April
VuFind went live, and we're hearing great feedback from patrons and staff. If you haven't yet
done so, give it a try! Here's a list of just three of the reasons we like VuFind better than the
previous catalog platform:
• Made for mobile technologies: VuFind works better with smart phones, tablets and other
small screen mobile devices, making it much easier for patrons to search the catalog,
place holds, renew items, etc.
• Expanded searchability: VuFind allows a wider range of smart searching and filtering,
making it easier to browse the catalog online.
• More flexibility with lists: Now patrons can create multiple lists in their account to track
titles wanted, titles read, etc. In addition, lists can be private or public, and can include
comments.
