Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission Eric Volk- Water Superintendent
John Dietz—Chair
Al Nadeau—Vice Chair
Daryl Thompson—Trustee
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
June 14, 2016 6.1e
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
DISCUSSION:
• Delivered ten new residential water meters.
• Sealed the water meter, and took curb stop ties from eight water services.
• Went on eight service calls.
• Completed 25 BACTUTota1 Chlorine Residual Samples
o All confirmed negative for Coliform Bacteria.
• Completed 20 routine fluoride samples
o All samples met MDH standards.
• We are in the process of collecting lead and copper samples per Environmental
Protection Agency(EPA)regulations. Results should be back in a month or two.
• We have completed the design and sent the plans to the Minnesota Pollution Control
Agency(MPCA) for the infiltration basin at Well#3. As soon as we get permission to
begin, we'll get started on the new basin.
• The water operators, with the help of Tony Hubbard, completed hydrant flushing in 4 Y2
days. Everything went very well. We had a total of about 30 hydrants that required
repairs; a much lower number than previous years. The operators are now in the process
of completing the annual maintenance on roughly 150 remaining hydrants. After these
hydrants are completed, the water operators will have performed preventative
maintenance on all 1200+hydrants in four years.
• We discovered that the bottom of the motor at Well#7 fell off, allowing the motor to fill
with water. EH Renner is in the process of devising a way to retrieve the piece from the
well. As soon as it is out, we will begin the reinstallation of the new pump and motor.
• The building permit for the WTP #7 Expansion has been issued and construction is
scheduled to begin on July 10.
