Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission Eric Volk- Water Superintendent
John Dietz—Chair
Al Nadeau—Vice Chair
Daryl Thompson—Trustee
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
July 12, 2016 6.1e
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
DISCUSSION:
• Delivered nine new water meters.
• Sealed the water meter, and took curb stop ties from nine water services.
• Went on eight service calls.
• Completed 25 BACTI/Total Chlorine Residual Samples
o All confirmed negative for Coliform Bacteria.
• Completed 20 routine fluoride samples
o All samples met MDH standards.
• We completed the EPA Lead and Copper Sampling June 6-13. Michelle Anderson was a
big help with coordinating with all of the residents for drop-off and pick-up of the sample
bottles. We should know the results of the samples taken within a month or two.
• The water operators have been working to complete the annual preventative maintenance
on the remaining fire hydrants. After the maintenance has been completed, the water
operators will have performed preventive maintenance on 1200+fire hydrants in the last
four years. The private fire hydrants will have had maintenance completed three times.
• EH Renner reinstalled Well#7 last week. We were unable to remove the broken piece of
the motor from the well as it fell to the bottom of the screen; the broken piece will remain
there until the screen is removed. We will be able to put the well back online as soon as
we complete both bacteria samples. I have attached a picture of the piece stuck at the top
of the screen.
• The contractors have started moving into Well#7. I've attached a picture of the area that
has been cleared of brush to make room for the topsoil when it's removed.
