Approve by motion the appointments of Aaron Brixius and Michael Schroeder as the (WHHCA)William
H. Houlton Conservation Area Stewards.
Background/Discussion
A Friends group made up mostly of Houlton neighbors has been formed to assist with the installation of
nearly 300 signs required on the property. Two members of the friends groups,Aaron Brixius and
WHHCA Committee member Michael Schroeder,have agreed to become Conservation Area Stewards.
They were discussed and recommended at the June 27, 2016 WHHCA Planning Committee Meeting.
Conservation Stewards will function exactly as Park Stewards,providing leadership and overseeing
volunteers, and will be a key element in maintaining and developing the Elk River park system. Park
Stewards also serve as the primary communication link between staff and the volunteers who spend
thousands of hours annually in the parks on maintenance and park improvements.
