This report is a monthly highlight of department activities related to collaboration, strategic
planning, staff changes/developments, and park operations.
Park Maintenance Worker Position
Interviews for the vacant Park Maintenance Worker were held on July 7 and 8. A total of eight
candidates were interviewed. This is the position that was previously held by Josh Baas who is now
the Park Maintenance Lead.
Riverfront Concert Series 2016
Thus far,we have had four concerts for the Riverfront Concert Series. The next concert is the Dee
Miller Band on July 14. Attendance has been strong at all the concerts,inlcudig the Arch Allies
which had to move to the Ice Arena because of weather. The concert schedule is as follows?

MORC Agreement
City Council approved on June 20, 2016 the Memorandum of Agreement between the City of Elk
River and the Minnesota Off-Road Cyclists (MORC). This means that Hillside City Park is now
officially a MORC mountain bike trail. Fees are no longer being charged to use the trails.
The Parks staff continues to work well with new Hillside Park volunteers. One of the volunteers,
Graydon Betts,is the MORC Board Treasurer and an Elk River resident who along with Harriet
Holasek has agreed in the short term to take on the Park Trail Steward responsibilities. A new
Hillside City Park facebook page has been developed by city staff assisted by MORC volunteers. .
The moderator for the MORC website/forums is now Graydon Betts.

Skate Park
The skatepark project Facebook page which was created in order to receive feedback on the park
design was open until the end of June for comments. Spohn Ranch is now incorporating that
feedback into an updated design. Around mid-July the revised design will be forwarded to the skate
park committee for review. The committee will then provide final feedback to Spohn Ranch who
will then return the final design by the end of July/early August. The plan will then be presented to
the Parks and Recreation Commission at the August meeting,and then the City Council afterwards.
A question did come up at the last set of workshop meetings regarding the option of rotating the
skatepark north to create more opportunity for the future trail that will be coming off of Hwy 10
when the bridge is redone. This would involve moving the powerlines to the North of the currently
proposed location. Staff is working with Elk River Municipal Utilities to determine what the costs
would entail to make this adjustment.
