Background/Discussion
The Parks and Recreation Department worked with the Sherburne County Master Gardeners to
identify a location for their summer gardening program to teach youth about the basics of
gardening. Planter boxes were placed on the library grounds where youth could grow vegetables and
other plants which could then be harvested and donated to the local food shelves.
Landscaping and interpretive signage was installed around the windmill sculpture to enhance the
aesthetics of the windmill and provide information as to the artistic display piece. Plant material
selected for the site was designed to provide color throughout the growing season as well as to
provide habitat for pollinator species.
