SUBJECT: Consider hiring a IT Support Specialist
The purpose of this memo is to give an update and recommendation on the hiring of an IT
Support Specialist.
The hiring of an IT Support Specialist was approved in 2004. Instead of filling the position
in 2004 the work was accomplished by employing interns; Matt Anderson and Tristan Nicka.
Both Matt and Tristan were with us full time tlu:ough-out the summer. Tristan arranged his
school schedule and has worked Monday, Wednesday and Friday since September.
Tristan is currently working on an Associate of Science degree in Computer Networking and
Telecommunications from Anoka Ramsey. He has arranged his last semester (Spring 2005)
to take all night classes and therefore is available for full-time employment.
The experience of his internship and the classroom training from Anoka Ramsey makes
Tristan an ideal for the IT Support Specialist position. He has demonstrated the ability and
knowledge to support a wide range of the city's information technology infrastructure.
Staff is recommending the City hire Tristan Nicka with the following terms:
Action Requested:
. Hiring Tristan Nicka at $15.00 per hour.
. Startiug date of January 3,J 2005.
. Increase to $16.00 per hour when he completes his AS degree.
. Step increase in July 2006, conditioned on performance.
