Approve, by motion, the additional design and engineering fees for the Rivers Edge Commons Park
Expansion Project
Background/Discussion
On July 6, 2015, the Council approved HKGi to perform professional design services for the basic design
phase of the Rivers Edge Commons Park expansion as shown in the Phase 1 diagram.
During discussions last fall with the City Council, the scope of the project expanded to include additional
elements such as the west staircase, upper plaza, site lighting, and an expanded stage.
Each of these additional design elements involved design time for the plans and related details, related
technical specifications, coordination of alternate related language in the plan set and bid forms, review of
shop drawings for the additional elements, and ongoing coordination for pricing and product options.
The design services were required to complete the construction plans and bid documents that were
advertised and then presented to City Council for construction approval on April 4, 2016. City Council
provided direction at the November 2 work session to proceed with the bidding of the construction
documents for the phase one basic design and additional elements.
Financial Impact
The additional design and engineering fees for the additions billed to date is $21,952, projected
outstanding balance is $2,000 with a total amount not to exceed $24,000. The basic design service
contract is $46,700. This makes the total project costs of $70,700 for design, engineering and planning
services for the construction of the Rivers Edge Commons Park Expansion.
